Emotional Support Animals are authorized to live with their owners in housing that does not typically allow pets, provided that a health care professional states in a letter that the patient needs to have a companion animal as part of his or her treatment. Emotional Support Animals are also authorized to travel in the cabin of a commercial airliner with a letter from a medical professional stating the need for the passenger to have the animal nearby to alleviate his or her symptoms.
